It is our hope in writing this introduction to Buddhism that each and every reader will be encouraged to try chanting Namu-myoho-renge-kyo for themselves. We acknowledge that there is no small amount of courage required to try something that is so foreign to one’s previous religious beliefs. We have been in somewhat the same circumstances as you probably are right now. We have chosen to try Nichiren’s Buddhism, and we continue to be amazed with the results in our lives.

We challenge you, our reader, to try chanting Namu-myoho-renge-kyo for thirty minutes to an hour (or more) each day and get a copy of the writings of Nichiren and study them at least twenty minutes a day for three months as an experiment. Such a practice will be a clear test of the validity of this religion. We have yet to see someone take this test and be able to come back to us and say that they did not experience a remarkable and irreversible positive change in their lives. Keep the three proofs in mind and prove this religion to be true or false. Just as the law of gravity will not let anything float to the heavens, the law of life cannot let even one single person who tries this religion not be significantly and positively affected by it, or it will be proven to be false.

The practice of Buddhism is not directly prohibited by the most popular religions of our day – Christianity and Judaism. You are not required to give up anything that you currently believe to try practicing it. You must only have a seeking mind and the courage to try for yourself a philosophy that will quickly change your whole life for the better. There is no higher teaching than this Buddhism. There is no other teaching that can actually free you from the chains of your karma and establish absolute happiness in your life. The practice is at once simple and extremely difficult. As you challenge your doubts about yourself and this Buddhism, you will open up a life you never knew you had. Remember the analogy of the magnet and steel that we used to explain that as you chant Namu-myoho-renge-kyo you take on the aspect of enlightenment. See for yourself what this is like. No one could possibly explain enlightenment to you even remotely as clearly as you will be able to see for yourself when you chant Namu-myoho-renge-kyo. As you revolutionize your life, you will clearly see others in your environment respond differently to your life. You will become an actor rather than a reactor to life. Even a few people with strong faith and practice can revolutionize the world by revolutionizing their lives. We hope that you, the reader, will join us.
