1. You won't have to defend religious texts that promote
or condone killing, genocide, slavery, homophobia, sexism or disregard
for life in general.
2. Your religious doctrines won't be constantly disproven
by new scientific discoveries.
3. Your most difficult theological questions will
no longer be answered by phrases like "God works in mysterious
ways" or "You can't understand the workings of God."
4. You can finally practice a religion that is not
only deeply spiritually fulfilling, but also intellectually sound.
5. You can have a religious practice that has been
repeatedly proven in scientific studies to be both psychologically
and physically beneficial.
6. Questions of morality will no longer be answered
with "because it says so in the [insert name of sacred text
here]," but rather with the more universal principles of preventing
suffering and developing happiness for all life.
7. You don't have to follow or give money to any church,
priest, or teacher.
8. Independent thinking, including challenging the
religion itself, is strongly encouraged and even considered an important
facet of spiritual growth.
9. You will no longer be required to have blind faith
in anything or anyone ever again. "Faith like a child"
is for children. We're adults now! (No offense to children.)
10. You will no longer have to contribute to the self-fulfilling
prophesy of Armageddon.
